MARY RITA ORF WOMMACK
Mary Rita Orf Wommack, of Silex, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the age of 85. Rita was born Feb. 24, 1929. Rita was one of six children born to Edmund and Ida Marie Luebrecht Orf of St. Clement.
She married Richard Ernest (Ernie) Wommack, the son of Joseph Benton and Kathryn Sands Miller Wommack, on May 20, 1950 at the St. Clement Catholic Church.
They are the loving parents of Gregory Ernest and Mary Kathryn. Ernest passed away on Nov. 10, 2009.
Survivors include: one son, Gregory Ernest of Silex, and Amelia Zimmermann and her daughter, Ashley Zimmermann; one daughter, Mary Kathryn Dillon and husband Doug of Troy; five grandchildren: Andria Dillon and Craig Nantel, Matthew Dillon, Allison Dillon and Landon Aubuchon, and Emily Wommack and Levi Wommack; two great grandchildren, Landon Aubuchon and Crayton Nantel; one sister, Fran Branstetter of Warrenton; one brother, Charles “Buzz” Orf and wife Marie of St. Clement; four sister-in-laws, Mary Orf of Chesterfield; Betty Haines and husband Bill of Olney, Becky Edelen of Silex, and Mary Grothaust Wommack of Silex; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and three of her siblings: Norbert Orf (Mary), Celeste Baxter (Bill), and Dorothy Anderson (Ed).
Rita grew up on her parents’ farm on Crow Lane in the St. Clement area.
She attended St. Clement’s Catholic Elementary and later graduated from Bowling Green High School, Bowling Green, in 1948.
Prior to marriage, Rita worked as a bookkeeper and clerk at Olin Bell Ford in Bowling Green.
After marrying Ernie, Rita devoted herself to her husband, their children, and their life on their farm in the Silex-Millwood area.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, relative, friend, and neighbor to all who knew her.
Rita was a very active lady for 85 years young. She enjoyed her family, fishing, hunting mushrooms, visiting friends, and attending social events.
She was very involved and active in her church and community activities.
Her warm, witty, friendly personality made her a favorite in both Pike and Lincoln counties. She was very giving and generous with her time and talents.
She was an exceptional cook and hostess. She enjoyed her yard and garden.
Rita was active in several organizations: St. Alphonsus Church, Scopic Club, and Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.
Serving as pallbearers were Mike Wommack, Ed Haines, Rex Haines, Mark Edelen, Cleve Wommack, and John Haines.
Honorary pallbearers were Matthew Dillon, Levi Wommack, Joe Wommack, Nathan Wommack, Kevin Grothaus, and Kevin Baxter.
Mudd-Veach Funeral Home was in charge of visitation, which was held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, July 18, at Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Silex.
Funeral services for Rita Wommack were at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 19 at St. Alphonsus Church in Millwood.
Rev. Father Charles Tichacek officiated.
Vocalist was Ryan Bibb, accompanied by Debbie Mudd.
Burial was in the St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
Rita Wommack touched many lives, and she will be dearly missed by all fortunate enough to have known her.
