Work needed for the Cornerstone Project

Vandalia Area Historical Society President Paul Ray called the June 20 meeting of the Vandalia Area Historical Society by asking for new discoveries and donations.
Charlene Teague reported the following: Dick Harris donated a Banjo Spade and Spoon used by the Vandalia utilities to hand dig holes for utility poles; Virginia Schwab Boyer donated a plaque honoring her mother, Charlotte Schwab, for 23 years of service as Student Council Advisor at Van-Far High School, 1960-1983; Dorothy Culwell donated an undated picture of the South School, an undated picture of the manned tellers’ cages in the Vandalia State Bank, and a program for the 1924 Vandalia High School Commencement Exercises; Elenore Schewe donated a picture of the 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration of Mr. and Mrs. C.G. Daniel; Bill and Lily Steiner donated a large picture of Lily’s Tae Kwon Do, USA  class of 1999; and Pat Trower donated a picture honoring Ervan Levine’s induction into the Rockland County Track and Field Hall of Fame from Suffern High School of New York in 1937.
Melissa Hassien Fayad has offered us a sign from Hassien Grocery Store which we will be happy to accept.
All of these items add to our collection of local history and are very much appreciated.
After regular reports were read and accepted Paul outlined the work to be finished on the Cornerstone Project and will e mail members with work dates and specific tasks to be completed.
Both paid and volunteer labor will be needed. Anyone who cannot work, but wanting to help may sponsor labor at $10. per hour. For additional information, call Charlene Teague at 594-3026 or Pat Trower at 594-3099.
The museum will be open from 4 p.m. till after the parade on Tuesday and on Saturday, June 28, from 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
The VAHS will have a display in the School House at the fairgrounds from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday. Members of the VAHS will also man the gate on Saturday from 5-10 p.m.
After setting the next meeting date for July 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Geneology Library the meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m. Everyone is invited to our meetings.
The regular hours of the  Vandalia Museum are 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday and noon-3 p.m. on Sunday.
