Ten year event set to honor state champs

Indian-logoThe Van-Far community is being invited to fill the high school gymnasium for the 10 Year State Boys Basketball Championship Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, June 21. “The Boys Are Back In Town” event is free to the public.
A Social Hour with cake and punch will be held from 6-7 p.m.
There will be several videos playing during the celebration. A couple will feature the team’s Final Four games, one is expected to be a KHQA highlight video, and another will be made of photos with songs like “We Are Ready” on a DVD.
A program emceed by KHQA’s Chris Duerr will start at 7 p.m.
The National Anthem will be performed by Marilyn Schlueter and Louis Clark.
Ron Stallcup will speak on the history of the team.
Many featured speakers include former coaches Brian Meny and Todd Cripe, players Joe Basinger and Mike Smith, and many others who wish to share stories and memories from the memorable season.
All of the players from the state championship team are expected to attend except for Chris Nation, who will be attending a wedding.
A quilt will be raffled off that has stars with the names of players along with a team picture of the state champions.
The remaining T-shirts, designed by Nick Lower, will also be for sale.
The team moms have organized the event and met every month to finalize the order of events.

Van-Far’s boys basketball team won the Class 2A state title at the end of the 2003-2004 season.
The Indians finished with a 28-3 overall record and had a 27-game winning streak.
Along with winning the state title, the Indians won tournament titles in South Shelby, Palmyra, and Bowling Green.
The Indians set six MSHSAA team season records along with winning the EMO Conference title, district title, and sectionals.
