Audrain Co. Retirees meet
Audrain County Area Public School Retirees met April 2 at the Audrain County Historical Museum. Guests present were Marilyn Skipper, President of MRTA, Pat Powell, Region 4 Vice President and Ruth Gardener, Regional Membership Chairman. 23 members were in attendance. President Maureen Hacker announced that we have two new members.
The pledge, singing of “God Bless America” and devotion were led by Beverly MacFarlane. Minutes of previous meeting were distributed to members and with no corrections the minutes were approved as written. Joan Fecht gave the treasurer’s report.
Informative Protective Chair Margaret Thomas gave report concerning scamming. Retirement Education Chair Carolyn Sprowls gave report on number of retirees in Missouri and on the retirement benefits. Community Participation Chair Sally Stuart read thank you note from Next Step students. Laura Pitts asked members to save Moser receipts and give them to Linda Ahmann as Mosers will give percentage to Next Step program.
Program booklets were given out and all members were reminded to pay dues. Hacker would like to organize Missions and Visions Statement Committee. Members were asked to give this some thought and email Hacker if would like to serve on committee. Hacker announced the BHAG goals for 2014: increase community action, improve attendance, connect with active teachers organizations, increase membership, be more visible in the communities. State would like to have 25,000 members in MRTA by end of 2015.
Hacker announced they would clean Old School House on April 15 at 1 p.m.
Hacker gave report from the MRTA President’s Summit. Hacker stated that she learned a lot of good things. Since MRTA building paid off, monies now going to teacher grants. Hacker asked that members share information concerning grants to teachers. Applications are due at end of June.
Hacker announced that distinguished retiree nomination application deadline is June 30. Motion made, seconded and carried to resubmit name of Teresa Wenzel.
Hacker stated that our association is certified as an affiliate of MRTA for upcoming year.
Pat Powell stated that our association will host the regional meeting on October 26, 2015. Ruth Gardener reminded members to distribute membership applications to retirees. Marilyn Skipper reminded members to read monthly MRTA newsletter via email. The next meeting will be June 4 at Teal Lake Assisted Living meeting room. Lunch will be brown bag with social committee providing dessert and drinks. Motion made, seconded and carried to adjourn meeting. Delicious lunch was served by the social committee.
