The Van-Far Lady Indians didn’t enter district week with the momentum they wanted after losing several games during their final week of the season.
On Senior Night against North Callaway, the Lady Indians struggled offensively in a 56-20 loss to the Lady Thunderbirds.
North Callaway led 13-4 at the end of the first quarter.
They pushed their lead to 19 points after a 15-0 run in the second quarter to take a 27-9 halftime lead. Van-Far made just 2-of-13 shots from the field in the half and just 6-of-24 in the game.
They also turned the ball over 19 times.
“We struggled getting back on defense and North Callaway is very quick and we just couldn’t seem to get a stop,” said Van-Far head girls coach Kelly Orf.
In the loss, Breanna Strange scored four points and three rebounds while Brooke Johnson added four points, four rebounds, and one steal.
Ciara Craven had two points, two steals, and one rebound; Abilene Gatson had two points and two rebounds; Renee Nelson had four points, two rebounds, and one steal; Kayelee Harrower had one point; Annaliese Hubert had one rebound and one assist; and Jayda Borgmeyer had one rebound, one steal, and one assist.
Against Marion County, the Lady Indians struggled against the state-ranked Lady Mustangs in a 56-33 loss.
The Lady Indians trailed by five points at halftime but fell behind after Marion County hit five 3-pointers in a row.
Van-Far did win the fourth quarter 14-11.
“I was proud that the girls played hard the entire game,” Orf said.
Johnson scored six points, six rebounds, and two steals while Harrower tallied six points, six rebounds, and one steal.
Nelson had five points and three rebounds; Borgmeyer had five points, four rebounds, and two steals; Strange added four points, two rebounds, and three steals; Haven Atkinson had three points and one rebound; Chevi Windland had two points and one rebound; Hubert had one rebound; and Craven had two rebounds.
The Lady Indians gave up seven 3-pointers in a 56-31 loss to Wellsville.
“We struggled on defense and didn’t play well as a team,” Orf said.
Johnson had a near double-double with nine points and eight rebounds while Gatson had five points, one rebound, and two steals.
Strange scored five points, seven rebounds, and two steals; Craven had three points and one rebound; Borgmeyer added two points and six rebounds; Hubert had two points and one rebound; Windland tallied two points, two rebounds, and one steal; Atkinson had two points, three rebounds, and two steals;  Harrower had one rebound; and both Nelson and Abbey Robinson had one rebound.
