The Community R-VI boys basketball team was hoping to once again defeat Sturgeon on its home court when the rescheduled third place game from the Bulldogs’ tournament was played last Saturday.
Unfortunately, Sturgeon was ready for revenge and found it in a 72-51 victory.
Sturgeon scored 24 points in the first quarter to take an early 12 point lead.
The Bulldogs extended their lead to 50-22 at halftime as they made seven 3-pointers in the first two quarters.
The Trojans’ defense started to make a difference in the third quarter.
Community R-VI’s defense held Sturgeon to just seven points while the Trojans outscored them 20-7 to cut the lead to 15 points.
Unfortunately, Sturgeon held on late for the 21-point victory.
“The week off really hurt,” said Community R-VI head coach Kenneth Jett. “We came out sluggish…We recovered in the second half but it was too big of a gap to recover.”
The Trojans made just 9-of-21 free throws while Sturgeon made 12-of-16.
Conner Brooks scored a team-high 16 points. Lane Thebeau scored 14 points and Clay Thebeau scored 11 points.
