Long time Martinsburg Postmaster Leah Wendel, of Vandalia, retired from the USPS after 25 years on January 31.
She started her career as a rural carrier associate in January of 1990, working as a substitute for Marty Aulbur. Wendel later became a full-time carrier before taking over as postmaster in 1998, replacing Pat Hawkey.
“I’m going to enjoy every day doing what I want to do,” said Wendel, who resides in Vandalia with her husband Stan.
Currently, Pat Hammons is the officer-in-charge at the Martinsburg Post Office.
