Bridge Replacement

Posted on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 1:53 pm

Weather permitting, beginning Monday, February 10 at 7 a.m., US 154 between Curryville and MO 19 will be closed to traffic up to 35 working days for bridge rehabilitation at the Spencer Creek Bridge, which is located just east of Route P and west of Blue Jay Road in Ralls County.
Road closure signs will be in place notifying motorists of the work. Alternate routes of travel should be taken over US 54, Route P and US 154.
Some areas of the roadway will remain open to residential traffic only; all other traffic must take alternate routes during this time.
L.F. Krupp Construction, Inc. of Ellisville, Mo. was the successful bidder on this project at $178,669.40.
Replacing the deck on the 65-year-old bridge requires removal of the deck and side barriers all the way down to steel, then cleaning and replacing some of the steel, and pouring concrete for the new deck which will be 22 foot wide compared to the existing 20 foot deck.
“Once the concrete is poured, it must cure, which is the most critical period during the work, when concrete reaches its maximum strength and durability,” explains Brian Haeffner, area engineer for MoDOT’s Northeast District.
“The deck on the Ely and Turkey Creek Bridges on Route A, built in the mid-50’s to early 1960, will also be replaced this spring. Replacing the bridge decks will extend the life of the bridges ensuring we get the best value of this work.”
With almost 35 bridge projects scheduled this year in northeast Missouri, MoDOT has created web pages that will provide updated information about these projects and subsequent road closures. The web pages, found at www.modot.org/northeast under 2014 Bridge projects in Northeast Missouri at http://www.modot.org/northeast/2014NEBridgeProjects.htm are easy to navigate and provide as many details about possible on the bridges that will be rehabilitated or replaced this year.
