Shirley Ann (Hendrix) Rider

Shirley Ann (Hendrix) Rider, age 72, passed away at her home on Thursday, January 16, 2014. Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Services were held at 1 p.m. at Faith Tabernacle Church of God in Christ. Officiating was the Rev. Richard L. Smith.
Pallbearers were Allen Erby, Shannon Jackson, Roy McQuay, Michael Reynolds, Joe Walker, and Darrel Wiser. Honorary Pallbearers were Jimmie Blair, Lloyd Blair, Chico Wray, JT Thomas, Michael Matthews, and Warren Thomas.
Shirley Ann (Hendrix) Rider was born May 11, 1941, the daughter of Charles D. Hendrix and Stella Louise (Cropp) Hendrix in Bowling Green, Mo.
She attended grade school and high school at Lincoln School in Vandalia, Mo.
Shirley also attended one year of continuing education at Scott Community College.
Shirley had worked several years at Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia as a CNA. Shirley moved to Peoria, Ill. in 1998 where she worked at Walgreens for one year, and then went to work for High Hill Photo Studio for three years. In 2000, she went to work for Hometown Productions. She was also an active member and Mother of Unity House of Prayer. In 2010, she returned home to Vandalia, Mo.
Shirley was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church of God in Christ where she was active in the church choir.
She was an avid reader and had a love for word puzzles.
Preceding her in death are her parents, one brother, and two sisters. She is survived by two sons, John Gilkey, of Smyrna, Ga., and Sam Gilkey and wife Karen, of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; a daughter Lisa Tyson, of Phoenix, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, Solomon, Terrius, Tristan, Samantha, Ted Jr., Jonathan, Taylor, Taylon, Xavier, and Elena; five great-grandchildren; six sisters, Peggy Warren, Barbara Clark, of Vandalia, Mo., Louise Blair, Cleo Forrest, and JP Forrest, of Montgomery City, Mo., Michelle Floyd and her husband JB Floyd, of Rock Island, Ill., Mary Danuser and her husband Dakota Danuser, of Aurora, Colo.; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.
All memorials and donations should be made to Faith Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Vandalia, Mo.
