Filings to begin in area election races
The following election filing information is for those entities participating in the general election on Tuesday, April 8, 2014.
Elections do require potential candidates to be U.S. citizens of the district or town for at least 12 months.
Most election requirements also include no citizens being elected who are in “arrears for any tax lien, forfeiture, or defalcation in office.”
City of Vandalia
There are three Wards and one mayoral seat up for election in the City of Vandalia. All four positions feature two year terms.
Current incumbents include Ramon Barnes, Mayor; Teresa Wenzel, Ward I; Larry Holt, Ward II; and John Weiser, Ward III.
Filing opens on December 17 at 8 a.m. and closed at 5 p.m. on January 21, 2014.
City of Farber
There are two at-large alderman seats up for election in the City of Farber. The current incumbents are Lynn Flowers and Steven (Tony) Shade.
Filing begins on December 17 and closes on January, 21, 2014.
Candidates must be at least 18 years of age.
City of Curryville
There are six seats up for election in the City of Curryville.
Candidates are needed for two year terms in the West Ward, South Ward, East Ward, City Collector, and Mayor.
There is also a one year unexpired term in the East Ward.
The filing date for these offices begins on Wednesday, December 11 at 8 a.m. and closes on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 4:30 p.m. City Hall will be closed on both Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Candidates must be registered voters in Pike County.
Village of Rush Hill
There are three seats up for election in the Village of Rush Hill during the April 2014 election.
Current incumbents include Connie Rutherford, Larry LaRue, and Lewis Nihiser.
The official election notice is posted at the Rush Hill Post Office.
Cities of Laddonia, Martinsburg, and Middletown
As of press time, the cities of Laddonia, Martinsburg, and Middletown had not reported their official information by press time.
Tri-County Care Center
The Tri-County Care Center has two district seats up for election next April.
The current District 2 incumbent is Sherry Allen. District 2 includes parts of Route F and Route W.
Mickey Hayden is the incumbent in District 3. That district is bounded on the reorganized school district No. 1 line of Audrain County, which is in Ralls and Pike counties. It includes the area outside the city limits, and makes contact with Route W and Route V.
Filings will be accepted from December 17, 2013 to January 21, 2014.
Van-Far Ambulance District
There are two, three-year terms up for election on the Van-Far Ambulance District Board.
The current District Two and District Five incumbents are Joyce Holt and Jimmy Williams.
District Two includes the area south of State St. and west of Jefferson St. District Five is north of State St. to the city limits and east of Jefferson St.
Filing begins on December 16 and closes on January 21, 2014.
The office will be closed December 24-26, 31, and January 1, 2014.
Van-Far R-I School District
Ther are three board of directors positions up for election next April.
All three seats feature three year terms.
Incumbents are Mark Udelhoven, Larry Wheeler, and Jim Hopke.
Declaration forms may be filed at the district’s Superintendent office on the following work dates:
• Tuesday, December 17 through Thursday, December 19, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
• Friday, December 20, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
• Monday, January 6, 2014 through Friday, January 17, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
• Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Filing will not occur on days in which the district is closed due to inclement weather.
Community R-VI School District
There are three school board seats up for election in the Community R-VI School District.
Incumbents are Glenn Jensen, Linda Gastler, and Andrew Fairchild.
Candidates should file at the district’s Superintendent office and must be at least 24 years of age.
The filing period begins at 8 a.m. on December 17 and ends on January 21, 2014.

• January 2, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
• January 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
