The Vandalia Leader recognizes the “Person of the Week” that has been nominated by the readers. The criteria is someone that is giving back by being a productive and caring member of the community.
This week’s “Person of the Week” is Mary Orr.
She is the owner of the Mane Shop on Park in Vandalia . Orr is also a member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church.
“I love my church and I try to give back to them as much as they have given to me. I’m not the chief a lot of times, but I am a good indian. I just like to help out where I can. I encourage people to volunteer and give back because it makes you feel good,” Orr said.
Outside of church and work, Orr has worked with the Agape House, served on the ambulance board, helped at the Laddonia Food Pantry, and volunteers monthly at the womens’ prison for Story Link.
“Mary is a very caring person who is always helping others. She visits the nursing home regularly and is very compassionate toward the sick and the elderly. She is active in her church and community. She has served on many boards, and when Vandalia Memorial Gardens needed someone to take charge of the grounds, she stepped up and took over. I think Mary is a perfect candidate for not only person of the week but person of the week,” one reader said.
