Monday Study Club meets
The Monday Study Club met at 2 p.m. on October 14 at the United Methodist Church. Deedie Reading was the hostess.
The meeting was called to order by club president Reading, as she led the pledges to the American and Christian flags.
Jackie Marshall had the devotional, “Writing Psalms as Prayers.” She closed with a prayer Psalm she had written about seeing and Columbus, our prayer for our land.
The fall luncheon was discussed. It will be October 28 at the Country Cupboard at 1 p.m.
Roll Call was answered by 10 members using the word “Life”.
Reading was in charge of the Duty, “The Promise of Pentecost,” based on Acts 2. She also led the question and answer session.
Jan Armstrong was in charge of the special study. Her subject was Columbus Day. It was declared a federal holiday in 1937 and in 1970, it was decided to be celebrated on the second Monday in October. She closed with a poem by John Clare.
The members present beside the ones already mentioned were Donna DeTienne, Ann Foreman, Val Galloway, Helen Jerman, Doris Ray, Kay Reading, and Edna Mae Wallace.
The meeting was adjourned as all members recited the Club Collect in unison.
The next meeting will be on October 28 at the Country Cupboard for their fall luncheon at 1 p.m.
