Two educators from the Community R-VI School District were invited to present at the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) National Leadership Forum in Chicago, Ill.
Patti Pazdera and Nicki Poindexter teamed up last year to implement a pilot social skills group at the request of the University of Missouri-Columbia Regional Professional Development Center.
The social skill group was designed to give a small group of students extra support by direct teaching of specific social skills followed by positive, specific feedback from the classroom teacher.
The group lasted six weeks and the results of the pilot program indicated positive results for the students even by the end of the school year.
The educators were invited to speak at the PBIS National Forum with Dr. Tim Lewis, MU Professor and co-director of the National Technical Assistance Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.
They presented the results of their pilot group and lessons learned from the experience.
Mrs. Patti Pazdera is the elementary counselor and PBIS Tier two coach for the district and Mrs. Nicki Poindexter is the second grade teacher and PBIS Tier one coach, both representing R-VI.
