PERRY DON “DONNIE” RUTHERFORD
Perry Don “Donnie” Rutherford, age 52, passed away unexpectedly at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2013.
Donnie was born in Kirkwood, Mo. on April 7, 1961, the second of four sons of Lowell Dean and Peggy Shirlene “Dixon” Rutherford. Donnie grew up in Middletown, Mo. and graduated in 1979 from Bowling Green High School.
Following graduation he moved to Fairfield, Ill. and was involved with harness racing. He proudly served his country in the logistics field doing tours in Germany, Kuwait, and Norway.
And after serving in the military, he moved to Ohio and expanded his logistic experience working in the trucking industry before returning to Missouri to be closer to his family.
Donnie and his wife, Candice Cunnigham, were married October 23, 2012, and made their home in Middletown, Mo. With this marriage, Donnie proudly became the father to Ashley and Addison. In Candice, Donnie found happiness and true love with someone with similar aspects on life like gardening, canning, and raising animals. He relished the chance to help raise Ashley and Addison and to share with them his hobbies and interests. Donnie was especially proud that they will be welcoming a new baby in March 2014.
Donnie was a person of wide-ranging interests, who saw pathways through life that others didn’t see. He possessed a deep knowledge on a wide range of subjects and had an almost limitless reservoir of stories and anecdotes. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family doing tractor pulls.
Donnie was preceded in death by his grandparents Lowell and Lydia Belle Rutherford; and Wilburn and Opal Dixon. He is survived by his wife Candice; daughters Ashley, Addison, and _______; brothers and sisters, Darrell Rutherford, Lisa (Mike) McClanahan, Joe (Christine) Rutherford, Dennis (Stacy) Rutherford, and LaDonna (Mark) Nobbe; and his in-laws Bob and Teresa Cunnigham and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Travis (Sylvia) Cunningham and Marissa Cunnigham and special friend Steven Bailey; and numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the family for a fund to be established for the two daughters and their unborn child.
Donnie’s family received guests at a visitation on Monday, October 21 from 4-8 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home in Vandalia, Mo.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Waters Funeral Home with interment immediately following at Fairmont Cemetery in Middletown, Mo.
