On Sunday, September 29, the Van-Far 3rd-4th grade Indians traveled to Mexico for the fifth game of the season. The Indians played against the Mexico Continental team on the optimist field.
Both teams scored a touchdown in overtime, however, the Indians were able to pull out the extra-point to take their fourth victory of the season with a score of 20-19.
At the start of the game, the Indians’ Darius Starks kicked off to the Continental’s 25-yard line.
The Indians’ Case Stafford found an opening and was able to sack the quarterback. The Indians defense eventually forced a turn over on downs.
With :35 seconds left in first quarter, quarterback Dalton Bailey passed the ball to Starks, who ran for a 30-yard touchdown. The extra-point was no good. At the end of first quarter, the Indians led by a score of 6-0.
The Indians Collen Martin recovered an on side kick to start the second quarter. On the first play, Bailey ran 20 yards with the quarterback keeper. Starks got the call again and rushed for 20 yards to get the Indians inside Continental’s red zone.
On fourth down, Bailey threw an interception and Continental was able to run it back for a touchdown. The extra-point was no good, making the scored tied at 6-6 at the half.
The third quarter was fairly quiet as neither team was able to score. Starks tried to get things going by running twice for a gain of 44 yards. In addition to solid defensive stops by Christian Shearon, Pacey Cope, and Stafford, kept the game tied throughout the third.
Just into the fourth quarter, the Continental scored a touchdown and then got the extra-point good. Mexico took the lead by a score of 13-6.
Martin gained five yards, followed a Starks 35-yard run that led to a touchdown.
Starks also scored the extra-point, tieing the game with only three minutes remaining in regulation. Easton McAfee sacked the Continental quarterback causing a fumble, however, the Indians couldn’t break the tie before time ran out.
