The Community R-VI School District held their monthly Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, September 18 in the library. The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. and a quorum was declared present.
In the first order of business, the board voted to accept the agenda as presented.
The board then voted to approve the August 21 Tax Rate Hearing and Regular Session meeting minutes, the transfer from the general fund to the teacher’s fund to cover monthly expenditures, the submission of the 2014 Missouri United School Insurance Council (M.U.S.I.C.) form, and the 2013-2014 district substitute list.
According to meeting minutes, the board also reviewed the August/September 2012 nurse’s report, and approved evaluations for buildings and grounds, as well as guidance and professional development. The board then voted to pay the September 2013 bills.
Board President Andrew Fairchild read a note from DeAnn Gould that was sent to thank them for a plant sent upon her resignation.
Jennifer Gilman and Patti Pazdera, guidance counselors, gave an update on the elementary and secondary guidance programs, read by Fairchild. Emma Jaccarino, technology director, gave a technology update, read by Fairchild.
Missy McCoskey, Becky McCurdy, and Melanie Utterback gave a presentation on Math/Science PLC group data.
Utterback explained several resources they are utilizing in teaching and preparing students for EOC’s.
McCoskey explained both strengths and weaknesses in each of her classes, and how she plans to engage her students and build weak areas.
McCurdy reviewed test score percentages in Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II, and shared her plan of action on how she plans to build up her students in these areas.
Brandon Westlake and Sarah Simmons gave a presentation on Social Studies PLC group data. Westlake shared weaknesses, evidence and a plan to correct these weaknesses.
McCurdy presented a PBS update along with an action plan and priorities for PBS going forward in our Middle School and High School.
Board Member Becky Schafer commented on the length of EOC’s with a concern of them being too long. Schafer also commented on the cleanliness of our building and what a great job the Maintenance Department is doing.
Linda Gastler commented that all teachers should be present for parent teacher conferences.
The board then reviewed the Scope of Work from CTS, and then voted to approve the bus routes for the 2013-2014 school year.
Community R-VI School Superintendent Cheryl Mack discussed the MSIP 5 Annual Performance Report and then reviewed the transportation summary for the fiscal year. Mack also shared the bus/maintenance log prepared by Michael Unger.
Dale Marshall, secondary principal, presented the secondary attendance report.
The board voted to adjourn the meeting at 8:55 p.m.
