R-VI softball gets first win

The Community R-VI Lady Trojans played the Wellsville Lady Tigers at home to secure their first win of the season on September 10.
Community R-VI Head Coach Sarah Simmons and her varsity squad pulled out a 5-4 victory and are now 1-3 on the season.
The Lady Trojans took the early lead by scoring one run in the first inning and one in the second.
Wellsville rallied in the top of third to score three runs and to pull ahead. In the bottom of the third, the Lady Trojans came up swinging and were able to add two more runs to the board.
The fourth and fifth innings were scoreless for both teams. In the top of the sixth, the Lady Tigers tried to regain the lead but could only muster up one run to tie the game. Community R-VI stepped up and scored one run in the bottom half of the sixth to get the win.
Samm Jett got the victory on the mound with five strikeouts, one walk, and one hit by a pitch.
Offensively, Lindsey Gastler went 3-for-3, Samm Jett 2-for-3, Mia Knipfel 2-for-3, Daniel Brooks 2-for-3, Dani Jackson 2-for-3 with an RBI, Katie Carline had an RBI, and Sam Jackson 1-for-3 with and RBI.
The Community R-VI Lady Trojans lose the game by a score of 15-0 to North Callaway on September 12. Sam Jackson was the only player to reach base by a walk.
“We had five errors. North Callaway hit the ball very well. Also, their pitcher kept our batters off balance, striking out five of nine batters,” Simmons said.
Jett walked one, hit one, and had one strikeout.
