    Laddonia Police Chief Shawn Puls stands alongside the city’s police cruiser.

    By Ben Marshall The Vandalia Leader Police Chief Shawn Puls applied, interviewed, and was hired in May 2014 by the Laddonia City Council after responding to an ad for the position. Chief Puls became the city’s first officer since it was last served with a local police presence in the mid-’90s. He was hired after the Laddonia residents voted for a tax increase to pay for a full-time police presence.

Ashley Fleming holds softball camp

Current St. Louis University Assistant Softball Coach Ashley Fleming held a camp for area youngsters last Wednesday, July 9 at South School Park. The camp was held in conjunction with the NEMO Hot Shots. Fleming, along with former University of Missouri teammates, taught players the fundamentals of the game during the event. The former Silex Lady Owl was a two-time All-American for the Lady Tigers.

    Thirty-five tractor drivers braved dusty roads and fresh blacktop to participate in the Annual Rotary Tractor Cruise. The cruise left the Vandalia Area Fairgrounds going east to Amish country.
