Several city officials, friends, and family members attended a retirement celebration to honor the service of Vandalia Mayor Ramon Barnes held on April 17 at the Vandalia Fire Station. Mayor Barnes recently completed his final term after serving the City of Vandalia from 1992-2014.     Just one night after the Community R-VI School District approved a measure to hire a School Resource Officer, the Van-Far R-I School District finalized things with the board’s approval of a memorandum between the two districts.   • Special Election scheduled for May 20 in City of Farber

    A Special Election will be held in the City of Farber on Tuesday, May 20 for Farber voters to choose either incumbent Lynn Flowers or write-in candidate Wiliam Robinson in a race for the final alderman seat. Both candidates tied with 11 votes a piece in the April 8 election. Farber City Hall will be the main polling location for the race.

R-VI baseball has tough games

The Community R-VI Trojans baseball team had mixed results in recent Madison Tournament and EMO Conference games. In the Madison Tournament, the Trojans dropped game one 11-0 to Canton. Pitcher Doug Davenport pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up nine runs on seven hits with five walks. He struck out one batter.   • Kobush ties for medal honors in Palmyra JV golf tournament

    Treyton Kobush paced the young Community R-VI Trojans golf team in the Palmyra JV Tournament after tying for medalist honors. Kobush tied a school record with a 41 over nine holes. The event was scheduled to be 18 holes but snow and wind along with cold temperatures dipping to 27 degrees shortened the tournament. Bryan Allen shot a 47 to tie for 15th place, his personal best.     The 2014 Missouri State Women’s Bowling Tournament was held in Springfield, Mo. on consecutive weekends starting March 15 through April 13. Vandalia’s Spare Time Bowl & Grill was represented by three top placing teams. Henderson 90th Birthday Celebration

Several Vandalia area veterans joined Earl Wayne Henderson for  a surprise 90th birthday celebration on Wednesday, April 16 at The Country Cupboard.  Twelve people attended the celebration including John Masulit, Larry Anderson, Ed Horton, Forrest Schoneboom, Leo McBride, Larry McBride, Larry Anderson, and Larry Shaw.   • Cut Scout Pack No. 59 meets

    On April 10, Cub Scout Pack No. 59 met at the Vandalia United Methodist Church. The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, the Cub Scout Promise, and the Cut Scout Motto. During the meeting Bob Cat badges were awarded to the  scouts who had completed the requirements to earn the badge.
