“It was a huge success” said Pam Perkins from the Vandalia Police Department after the 4th Annual Vandalia Police Department Trunk or Treat on October 27. “We were still doing hay rides up until 8:30 p.m. Food stands were swamped. We ran through 320 walking tacos and 80 BBQ hot dogs in two hours. There were an estimated 400-500 trick-or-treaters with lines that wrapped around from the entrance. Donations were outstanding. It looks like an approximate 30-35 local and surrounding businesses and agencies participated. The Haunted House and Hay Ride were outstanding. The weather was great. And we are super thankful for the fairboard letting us do it out there.”
Several area businesses and residents handed out candy to several youngsters during the event held at the Vandalia Fairgrounds. The Monster Mash Kart Dash, also held at the Fairgrounds as sponsored by the Vandalia Area Go Kart Association, had a big turn out with people walking back and forth to both events. Children in costume were seen filling one area of the stands at one point with adults and children packing the stands throughout.
There were 58 entries for the event.
