2nd Annual Bailey’s Ride for Suicide Awareness in Vandalia

The 2nd Annual Bailey’s Ride for Suicide Awareness was held on Saturday, May 26 at the Vandalia Area Fairgrounds.
Kick stands were up starting at 11 a.m. as the event featured a Poker Run, Silent Auction, 50/50 drawing, food, and a DJ.
Michael Foster won the 50/50 Raffle.
Information was also available at the event on suicide to bring awareness to suicide prevention using data from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
It is noted that suicide is the 10th leading cause of overall deaths in Missouri resulting one suicide every eight hours.
It is the third leading cause of death for those ages 10-24.
Other statistics show that suicide is the second leading cause of death for ages 25-34 and fourth leading cause for ages 35-54.
These are all numbers recorded in 2017 and presented by the AFSP..
Vernon Laswell, board member for the AFSP in Fulton (Greater Mid-Missouri Chapter) was present for the event.
